Emotional appeal has got to be one of the most widely used weapons in public speaking. The essence of storytelling, which is a crucial part of public speaking, is to connect with the hearts and minds of listeners, appealing to their emotive senses.
Mention any of your best authors or public speakers and slowly peruse through their speeches – I bet you’ll find the common denominator in them all is storytelling. Storytelling has an irresistible appeal as it allows a listener to create a scenario in their minds and slowly focus and follow on the buildup of the scenes. Oftentimes, storytelling allows us to get into the shoes of the character narrating it or we become the characters ourselves and we are able to follow through the unfolding of the scenes, one at a time.
The greatest orators of our time have always had platinum speeches because of their ability to connect their agenda with a background story that aligns well with their call to action. Talking of great orators, please check out speeches by the late Steve Jobs.
So, how does storytelling and digital marketing intertwine? First, one of the most considerable skills you need to develop within digital marketing is content marketing. Content creation’s strategy has always been to form persuasive selling points. This creative narrative is what’s called brand storytelling. So, if your brand is able to be creative enough to connect with your target audience, what that means is, your brand relates to the audience in a softer manner as opposed to hard sell. In that case, your brand is already making the right steps towards growth and success.
They say, nobody cares about your story until you win. Well, while essentially this is true, we choose to tweak that to align with our digital marketing space and read it as, ‘we care about your story – provided it’s emotionally appealing and persuasive enough to generate sales’.
C’mon, we aren’t mean. It’s just a scratch my back and I scratch your back situation.
Finito!
